What are Amman's circles?

Amman's circles are the eight large roundabouts of West Amman, the First to Eighth Circle, seven of them on Zahran Street (officially the Circle Street). The 1st Circle is in Jabal Amman where Rainbow Street begins, and the numbers rise westward to the 8th, the traditional edge of the developed west. Locals use them as address markers.

Amman's circles: questions answered

How do Amman's circles work?

Amman's western districts are laid out along a sequence of large roundabouts known as the First Circle to the Eighth Circle, most of them on Zahran Street. The numbers rise as you head west from the 1st Circle in Jabal Amman, so a higher number generally means further west. Locals use them as address markers. This guide →

How many circles are there in Amman?

Eight, numbered 1 to 8. Seven of them sit on Zahran Street, officially the Circle Street, and the 1st Circle is the first of the series, on Jabal Amman where Rainbow Street begins. The 5th Circle was replaced by traffic lights in 2020 and the 6th and 7th are also signalised. All neighbourhoods →

What areas are near each circle in Amman?

The 1st to 3rd Circles are in Jabal Amman, the 4th is beside Abdoun and holds the Prime Ministry, the 5th has the big hotels at the edge of Um Uthaina, the 6th links Um Uthaina and Sweifieh, the 7th sits between Um Uthaina and Wadi Al-Seer, and the 8th marks the western edge of the developed west. All neighbourhoods →

What is the 7th Circle called officially?

Prince Talal bin Muhammad Square, noted for a large green lawn around a large monument. Queen Alia International Airport Road runs south from the city past the 7th Circle. 7th Circle guide →

What is the 6th Circle called officially?

Prince Rashid bin El-Hassan Square. It is a major junction linking Um Uthaina and Sweifieh, and Abdullah Ghosheh Street offers a bypass south of it. 6th Circle guide →

Is the 8th Circle the edge of Amman?

It marked the traditional edge of Amman's developed west side, and today it is a junction between urban Amman and the ring roads leading out of the city, with several hotels and businesses. The city has since grown beyond it. 8th Circle guide →

Which circle is best to live near?

It depends. The 4th Circle has the highest furnished share and sits next to Abdoun (median two-bedroom rent JD 1,000 a month), the 7th Circle is cheaper (about JD 800), and the 1st to 3rd Circles put you in historic Jabal Amman near Rainbow Street. Best areas to live →

Why are Amman addresses given by circle?

Because streets are long and hilly, and the circles are the landmarks people know. Giving the nearest circle tells you roughly how far west you are, which is why listings and directions use them. Jabal Amman guide →
